Martin Stone Quarries Inc., recently donated $40,000 to the Berks Career & Technology Center (BCTC) Education Foundation. The contribution will directly bolster the center’s Heavy Equipment Operations, Heavy Equipment Technology, and Diesel Technology programs.“The donation from Martin Stone Quarries will be pivotal in advancing our programs. It will enable us to provide state-of-the-art training facilities and resources, ensuring that our students graduate with the skills and knowledge demanded by the industry,” Michael Stauffer, executive director of Berks Career & Technology Center, said in a statement.

“At Martin Stone Quarries, we recognize the critical importance of supporting educational initiatives that prepare the next generation of skilled professionals,” Rod Martin, president of Martin Stone Quarries, said in a statement. “BCTC’s programs align seamlessly with our values, and we are proud to contribute to developing a well-trained workforce.”

The Heavy Equipment Operations program is designed to provide students with the theory and hands-on skills needed for the operation and preventive maintenance of various type of heavy equipment, according to information on the BCTC website. The Heavy Equipment Technology program is designed to provide students with the theory and hands-on skills needed to repair and maintain various types of heavy equipment found on construction sites, while the Diesel Technology program prepares students to engage in diagnosis, servicing, and maintenance of diesel trucks.

Gavin Milligan, president of the BCTC Education Foundation and Communications Chair, added that the contribution will enable BCTC to “enhance the quality of education and training we provide to BCTC’s students.” He added that support from industry leaders is instrumental in ensuring that its programs “remain at the forefront” of preparing students for successful careers.

Joint Operating Committee Chairman Robert Heckman, representing school board officials from each of the 16 schools that attend BCTC, said the support from Martin Stone Quarries illustrates the “power of collaboration” between industry and education.

Founded in 1953, Martin Stone Quarries Inc. is a family owned and operated company in Bechtelsville. The company mines granite gneiss stone, and produces Martin Infield Mix, which is used on baseball and softball fields throughout the Mid Atlantic region.Berks Career and Technical Center was founded in 1968, and operates two campuses in Berks County — in Oley and in Leesport. The center provides technical education and career preparation for high school students and adults.
